Day 1- Lusk, Wyoming

We kicked off summer with an 8-day road trip which I dubbed "the Dakotas" road trip. First stop- Lusk, Wyoming, where we arrived very late (nearing midnight) and were able to settle in quickly and comfortably into the Covered Wagon motel. And really, is there nothing better than being able to back your car up so close to your room door for unloading, that your back bumper is practically touching the bed? I love old fashioned motels for this reason, without the dreaded luggage carts and elevators, and long hallways.

After a pretty restless night of sleep, we stumbled into the breakfast room and chugged some hot coffee while the boys poured huge bowls of all the sugary cereals we don't buy at home. We spent the rest of the morning enjoying the empty and spacious indoor pool and hot tub (we have a knack for finding empty hotel pools), and letting the boys run around the huge, green lawn before loading up the car and heading 2 more hours north for our next state, and stop- Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota.
